About Juvenile Court
The Juvenile Court office is located at 10 Bill Burnett Circle, Union City, TN 38261 on the lowest level of the Obion County Courthouse. This office is responsible for legal proceedings regarding county juveniles. This office is responsible for recording and maintaining records of the Juvenile Court. Some other responsibilities include:
- Intake duties for juveniles including receiving and examining complaints and allegations of delinquency and unruly behavior for the purpose of conducting a preliminary inquiry.
- Counseling of juveniles
- Record keeping and transmitting information to the commission on children and youth or the office of executive secretary of the Tennessee council of juvenile and family court judges.
- Make investigations, reports and recommendations to the judge having juvenile jurisdiction.
- Make appropriate referrals to other public or private agencies.
- Make predisposition studies and submit reports and recommendations to the court as required.
- Perform other functions as directed by the court or by law including, but not limited to, those set out in 37-1-105
- Make appropriated decisions in dependency neglect cases
- Custody assignments for unwed parents
- Child support assignments for unwed parents
The Juvenile Court office is also responsible for processing the paperwork for each defendant, preparing and transferring all records for cases on appeal to a higher court, and collecting, receipting, and accounting for all fines, court cost, and restitution.
